Newly Admitted Students

Please use the following resources and information to prepare for becoming a PhD student in the Biological Sciences Division.

First Steps

Claiming your CNET: Your first step as a student will be claiming your CNET ID. This will enable you to login to various university systems and set up your university-affiliated email address. To claim your CNET ID, you will need to visit the IT Services website and click on the "Create your CNET ID and password" link and then follow the listed instructions to create your email address. The University of Chicago will use this email address as its primary means of communication.

Sending your official transcript:  An official transcript certifying your degree is a required part of your student file. If your institution is able to provide an official electronic copy, the email address to use is bsdadmissions@uchicago.edu.

Student Research

Responsible Conduct of Research Policies

If your research plan includes relevant types of experimental work that will be covered by experimental protocols, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the University of Chicago policies on the responsible conduct of research before arriving on campus. Specifically, see the links for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Office of Research Safety. Also review the IACUC website for mandatory training modules (CNET ID required), protocols and other information that will be useful to know before you work in a research lab.
